Here we are again, aren't we? That familiar January feeling where everywhere you look, someone's telling you how to "new year, new you" yourself. Lose two stone, finally get that promotion, sort out your work-life balance - and somehow do it all while remaining perfectly zen. Sound familiar?

Over my coaching journey, I've noticed something fascinating: these resolutions we set? They're often just the tip of the iceberg. That weight loss goal might actually be about feeling more confident in yourself. The career change could be less about the job title and more about finding work that lights you up inside. And that elusive work-life balance? Perhaps it's really about creating boundaries that honour what truly matters to you.

Let's pause for a moment. Rather than diving straight into another list of things to "fix" (because you're not broken, by the way), what if we took a different approach? What if we dared to look beneath these surface-level goals to understand what we're really yearning for?

I remember sitting with a client - let's call her Sarah - who came to me wanting to "get her life sorted." As we worked together, it became clear that what she actually wanted wasn't just a tidier calendar or a new job. She wanted to feel alive again, to reconnect with the part of herself that used to dream big before life got in the way. Perhaps you can relate?

Here's what I know to be true: when we connect deeply with our values - those fundamental principles that guide us - everything else starts falling into place. It's not always comfortable (meaningful change rarely is), but it's incredibly powerful. Instead of letting life happen to us, we begin actively choosing our path.

Think about it - what would your life look like if it were fully aligned with your values? What boundaries would you need to set? What conversations would you need to have? And here's the big one - what dreams have you kept tucked away, too afraid to even whisper them aloud?

I'm not talking about those sensible, practical goals we're so good at setting. I mean those wild, heart-racing dreams that make you think "I couldn't possibly..." before you've even finished the thought. Because here's the thing - you absolutely could.

Creating lasting change isn't about willpower or strict resolutions. It's about understanding what truly matters to you and building foundations strong enough to support all that you're capable of becoming. It's about learning to pause before you react, choosing your response rather than regretting your reaction. Yes, it takes work - proper soul-searching, value-defining work - but you don't have to do it alone.

As we step into 2025, I invite you to try something different. Instead of asking "What do I want to do?", ask yourself "Who do I want to become?" Instead of setting arbitrary goals, explore what's really driving these desires for change. What are you truly seeking?

This isn't about adding more pressure or creating a longer to-do list. It's about giving yourself permission to want more, to be more, to create more. It's about building foundations strong enough to support all your dreams - even the ones you haven't dared to voice yet.
